I Read 6 Books in August and Only One Got 5 Stars

August was a weird reading month.

I finished six books, DNFed two more, tried five authors I had never read before, and somehow the book I was most nervous to pick up ended up being my only five-star read of the month.

Meanwhile, another book pulled something at the end that I am still holding a grudge over.

There were some very mixed feelings

My August reading took me all over the place, from thrillers and female rage to romance, true crime obsession, and a historical story I did not expect to love nearly as much as I did.

There was also an old lady serial killer, which should probably tell you everything you need to know about the range here.

A couple of books were fun but did not completely win me over. One had a premise I loved more than the execution. Another made me question whether standalone books should even be allowed to end a certain way.

Yes, I am still annoyed.

And then there was my five-star surprise

The biggest shock of the month was my favorite book.

My TBR jar picked it for me, I was hesitant going in, and I fully expected it to be one of those books I appreciated more than I enjoyed.

Instead, I was completely sucked in.

That is all I am telling you here because I ranked every book I finished in my August reading wrap-up, from my lowest-rated reads all the way to the one that got five stars.

I also get into the two books I DNFed, what I am reading now, and the book ending that sent me into a small rage spiral.

Watch the full video to see all six books, my ratings, and which one surprised me the most.

And then tell me what I should add to my September TBR, because clearly I enjoy letting other people influence my reading decisions.
