I just finished Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez, and I had to share my thoughts because this book totally hit me in the feels.

Say You’ll Remember Me Book Summary

When Samantha first encounters Xavier, it’s one of those classic meet-cutes that romance readers live for.

So, Samantha meets this ridiculously hot veterinarian named Xavier Rush, who gives off major Greek god vibes while holding a kitten (I mean, come on). But then he opens his mouth and says something completely stupid.

Sam loves nothing more than putting an asshole in his place, but Xavier actually admits when he’s wrong. He’s literally the walking embodiment of every romance reader’s dream – gorgeous, successful, and caring for a tiny, helpless kitten.

I mean, if that doesn’t make your ovaries explode, I don’t know what will! Plus, there were so many references to him looking like the real-life human version of Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

They end up having this amazing date that feels like it could be the start of something epic. It’s one of those rare fictional dates that feels both fantastical and somehow completely realistic.

The chemistry between them jumps off the page, and you can literally feel the connection building with every interaction. It’s that perfect blend of physical attraction and meeting someone who just gets you on a deeper level.

But just when you think we’re heading for an easy, happily-ever-after, Jimenez hits us with the family crisis the next day! Sam has to prioritize her family (which, respect), and makes the heartbreaking decision to end things before they really begin.

The emotional journey as they both try (and fail) to forget each other while dealing with 2,000 miles of separation is so beautifully written. It explores how sometimes the right person comes at the wrong time, but also how real connections don’t just disappear because of distance or circumstances.

Character Development

One thing Jimenez absolutely excels at is creating characters with off-the-charts chemistry. Like, she nails this every time.

Sam and Xavier’s banter is everything. They challenge each other, make each other laugh, and create this electric atmosphere whenever they’re together. Plus, they made you literally laugh out loud.

Sam is such a fantastic female lead — she’s strong-willed, knows her boundaries, and isn’t afraid to call people out when necessary. But she’s also deeply loyal to her family and willing to sacrifice her own happiness when needed.

And Xavier? Swoon-worthy doesn’t even begin to cover it. Beyond the obvious physical attributes (which, let’s be honest, are described in mouthwatering detail), it’s his emotional depth that makes him stand out from other romance heroes.

Say You’ll Remember Me Book Review

This book took me on a serious emotional rollercoaster. There were moments where I was dying from the witty dialogue, and others where I was really sad for these two. The range Jimenez manages to cover without giving you emotional whiplash is truly impressive.

What really got me was how she explores the concept of timing in relationships. We’ve all heard “right person, wrong time” stories, but this one hits differently because both characters are so self-aware about their situation.

They’re not making dumb decisions or miscommunicating (my biggest pet peeve in romance novels). They’re making painful but understandable choices based on their circumstances.

The family dynamics in this story add another layer of emotional complexity. Sam’s loyalty to her family and the crisis they’re facing feels authentic and adds real stakes to the romance. It’s not just a contrived obstacle — it’s a genuine dilemma that makes you question what you would do in her shoes.

Say You’ll Remember Me on Audiobook

I listened to this one, and let me tell you, the male narrator’s voice is perfection. Seriously, I could listen to him read a grocery list and be completely enthralled. Shout out to Matt Lanter. (Google him. You’re welcome.)

And the female narrator? She’s someone I used to watch on “Step by Step” back in the day! My fellow millennials will appreciate this little nostalgic easter egg. Christine Lakin was Al, the token pretty tomboy. Her narration brings Sam to life with the perfect tone of voice.

The dual narration format works perfectly for this story, giving us insight into both Sam and Xavier’s perspectives and making their emotional journeys even more impactful. If you’re an audiobook person, this is definitely one to add to your library.

Now, if anyone knows… do they record this together? Can we get some behind-the-scenes of the recordings? These people are too pretty to be behind the mic the entire time!

ACOTAR References

For all my fantasy romance lovers out there, especially Sarah J. Maas fans, you’re in for a special treat. There are multiple references to Rhysand from the Court of Thorns and Roses series scattered throughout the book that had me absolutely living because I have such a crush on the fake faerie man.

Jimenez clearly knows her audience, and these little nods to one of fantasy’s most beloved book boyfriends add another layer of fun for those of us who are part of both fandoms. I found myself grinning like an idiot every time I caught one of these references.

It’s also a testament to how Xavier’s character has that same magnetic appeal that made readers fall in love with Rhysand. That perfect blend of confidence, vulnerability, and unwavering respect for the female protagonist.

Abby Jimenez’s Other Books

I became an Abby Jimenez fan with the Part of Your World series. That book, along with Yours Truly and Just for the Summer, were such fun reads with characters and situations that are funny AF.

Plus, one of the animals from Yours Truly gets a mention in this one, too! If you enjoyed those books, you’ll absolutely love Say You’ll Remember Me.

While it has the same humor and heart that made me fall in love with her previous rom-coms, I think this one dives even deeper emotionally. The obstacles Sam and Xavier face feel weightier, and their journey to overcome them is all the more satisfying because of it.
