Organic seems to be a timely word, doesn’t it? People wear organic clothing (yes, that’s a thing), they eat organic food, they wear organic makeup, and they use organic products – like face wash and moisturizer.

Organic Skincare

One organic skincare company setting the bar high is POLYN. Today, consumers don’t just want a great product. They want a great product… and more.

For example, my sister won’t buy certain meat based on how the animals are treated. Aside from beliefs like that, many people have learned more than they could have ever imagined about their health and how a variety of factors affect how someone feels.

Because consumers want to know more about what goes into making a product, POLYN decided to use that as it’s platform.

The skincare company prides itself on how its natural skincare is created with:

The packaging materials are also recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable.

I’m not going to lie. I’m not one of those people who does the “all natural thing” all the time. I feel like the word “natural” is thrown around a lot and can be confusing because there are so many different definitions of one word. I mean, how do we know something is really natural… or just kinda natural?

I love learning new things, so I asked my friends at POLYN for help… and I learned a lot.

1. What is plant based?

POLYN uses oil extracted from the peppermint plant or uses the peppermint itself in its product. It never uses a derivative of the peppermint that was created in a laboratory because that’s not natural to them!

I learned if something is natural, the exact same product could look different depending on seasonal changes, pollination, soil, temperature, water, altitude, etc. I never thought of that before, but doesn’t it make perfect sense?

2. What are cruelty-free products?

Remember when I told you about my sister and the way she chooses her meat? Well, it’s not only food she thinks about.

FUN FACT: A 2015 national Nielsen survey found that “not tested on animals” was the most important packaging claim among 1,000 adults surveyed. A December 2016 survey of SKINourishment customers revealed the same results where 64% of you said you look for cruelty-free products above all other claims.

When I was doing SEO keyword research for this post, millions of people were searching for answers on this same topic by Googling things like:

  • “cruelty free products”
  • “cruelty free skincare”
  • “cruelty free makeup brands”
  • “cruelty free shampoo”
  • “cruelty free drugstore makeup”

Perception is reality, right? In doing research for this blog post I also learned this:

Most synthetic ingredients are tested on animals. It doesn’t matter that your product has the words “not tested on animals.” It simply means the company purchased their synthetic ingredients from someone else and did not test themselves. That company does not have to claim “they” tested on animals, even though their supplier did. Tricky, huh?

If you want to make sure the rest of your products like POLYN and its parent company SKINourishment are cruelty-free, visit the PETA website to check on brands you love.

3. What does non-GMO mean?

Now, let’s tackle those three letters that we’ve been hearing a lot lately.

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism – basically, anything that’s DNA has been changed. (That’s a lot of stuff.)

Because some research has found some GMOs unsafe, many countries are forced to label products and goods that have been modified. The United States is not one of those countries.

So, non-GMO means natural. Not the generic term people throw around… really natural.

Now, I’m not a scientist and I don’t pretend to be one on my blog, so I can’t go into further explanation, but I can say there are countless resources for you to learn more about what’s natural, what’s organic, and what’s right for you.

But let’s get back to this all natural skincare for a second and my favorite part about POLYN: The products (face, body, and oils for emotional needs) are made in the United States of America!

At POLYN.co, order over $50 in the United States ship for FREE. Until May 31st, 2017, you can also save 20% at POLYN.co when you use the coupon code skinlovesplants.

Happy (plant based) shopping!

I’m a huge believer in spreading awareness about animal testing, so POLYN is spot-on!!! Good for this company!
